For the 2021-22 academic year, the Office of Academic Affairs will sponsor two types of mentoring circles. All are devoted to the topic of tenure, promotion, and advancement.
In the future, the range of MC offerings through LIFT will expand to include sponsored as well as grassroots generated topics (i.e. topics based on nominations from faculty).
Eligibility
Faculty actively seeking or contemplating promotion and/or tenure as outlined below are eligible to participate in the 2021-22 LIFT mentoring circles. These two categories include the following.
These MCs serve faculty seeking promotion and/or tenure in the next academic year to senior lecturer, teaching professor, associate and full rank. Members should be actively preparing their dossiers for submission. Each MC will consist of four-to-six members and multiple instances of this circle type can run based upon faculty interest.
These circles will:
Be a safe space to engage with peers from across campus navigating the promotion process.
Be an accountability group to make timely progress on completion of the dossier.
Provide access to community and institutional resources as well as tools to help circle members address concerns and challenges regarding the promotion process.
These MCs serve faculty members who have been at the associate rank for 6+ years and are weighing the costs and benefits of seeking promotion to full professor. Each MC will consist of four-to-six members and multiple instances of this circle type can run based upon faculty interest.
These circles will:
Be a safe space to engage with peers from across campus, who have been at associate rank for several years, and are uncertain what they want to do next.
Be an accountability group to help members as they evaluate their capacity to go up for full and support them as they work on developing a plan of action.
Provide access to community and institutional resources to help circle members address concerns and challenges regarding barriers to seeking promotion and the promotion process itself.
